KARGOPOLLAG
Forgotten and abandoned "Gulag" system Correctional Labour Camp.
Arkhangelsk region. Russia.
Far from roads and civilization, correctional camps created in the USSR by the GUlag system are scattered throughout the Russian North. These places are located in the middle of the swamps in summer and are noticeable by snow in winter, to which another terrible frost is added. Not everyone managed to survive there, but almost no one managed to return healthy.
A road laid on top of the swamp and a railway led to the camp, which was dismantled for scrap metal after the collapse of the USSR in the 90s.
The remains of the residential barracks in which the prisoners lived.
Prisoners, camp residents who were released but not allowed to leave, and service personnel had to walk on wooden walkways to avoid drowning in a swamp.
Another five to ten years will pass and there will be no trace of these places. Unless a new penal system for those who disagree with the ruling party appears in Russia. Which is quite real...
